The Ultimate Newborn Baby Photo Session

2017 is approaching quickly, I will be taking some time off for the Holidays to refresh my mind and body so I can hit the ground running when I reopen for business in January – giving my customers the Ultimate Newborn Baby Photo Session.  I always like to come up with new and creative ideas.  Always on the hunt  for new props that will delight my littlest customers and make their images special.

So today, I blog a few of my favorite images of newborn babies from sessions shot in the last year. These images have really melted my heart.

I hope you will let all your expecting friends know about Brenda Horan Photography.  Sessions are typically done between 7-14 days old.  Booking during your pregnancy is wise, as most of the best, experienced photographers have their schedules planned out well in advance.   I also offer gift certificates – so if you are going to a baby shower – give them a gift they will think is PRICELESS!!!

Let’s start off with my favorite pose for newborn babies – where the baby face is  just so pretty and the hands and toes are also displayed so nicely.  All these outfits are in my prop closet for clients to choose from.  Hats, headbands, and teddy bears are all added to compliment, not overpower, the baby.Brenda Horan Newborn

Next up – one of my favorite new props –  the tiny newborn baby chair – I even have one for twins coming soon!  This cozy little chair makes posing baby so easy to display their little features so perfectly.Brenda Horan Newborn

The baby in a bucket pose will continue to be one of my favorite – here using vintage linens and tiny delicate headbands, really make this image special.

Another way to capture babies is by including these precious baby bears!  I just think it’s the sweetest!

Sports fanatic? – I’ve got that covered as well, using simple props to compliment the image and not overpower it.

Then there’s the perfection of a knitted bonnet, outfit or wrap make images of  newborn babies soft and sweet.  I have a variety of items to choose from.

The number one asked for pose – done with the utmost care and composited by two photos put together so your baby is never at risk.

So if you are expecting, or know someone who is, I hope you will share the link to this blog on your FB wall and tag them.

Here is a link for more Newborn Baby Session Information:

All the hats,   headbands, outfits and props you see here and on my website and FB wall  are all part of my collection of items you can choose from, including over 100 backdrops and floor drops.

After being in business for 17 years, I can honestly say, I love my “job” and look forward to what 2017 has in store for me and my little customers.

All the best to you and your family,

Brenda

Newborn Photography makes me Happy

When you specialize in Newborn Photography like I do, you learn that the baby is in control.   Yes, I have little tricks in my arsenal from the past 16+ years in business, but sometimes those tricks just don’t work, and having patience is the essential key to making it work.  This week I had one baby that was fussy and one that slept like a rock.  The difference really is in the experience level and patience of the photographer and how I can calm the mom down by reassuring her each baby session is different and for her not to worry, that I’m going to capture sweet images of her little babe.

BlogNewborn

With all newborn session,  I’m asking the mom what colors are in the baby’s nursery, then mom will pick out her favorite items from  everything I’ve selected for the session.   I’m really in love with my new, tiny teddy bears.  I have them in a range of colors and I just love the  texture they add to these sweet images.

I see a trend going on lately, with more wrapped and dressed little babies, so I have a dozen or more little baby outfits for both boys and girls for mom’s to pick from, that add just the right amount of coverage to a baby so they aren’t all naked in every image.  These outfits are selected for softness and fit and work perfect for newborn sessions.  Easy on and easy off so the baby is less likely to wake up during changes.

Choosing a newborn  photographer should not be based on price, it should be based on the style and experience of the photographer.  This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to capture your baby as the sweet an innocent babe that they are.   Believe me when I say that they grow very fast, and before you know it they will be crawling and laughing and before you know it going off to college!

Sessions are typically done between 7-14 days old.  Booking during your pregnancy is wise, as most of the best, experienced photographers have their schedules planned out well in advance.

I love helping customers plan our their nursery design by utilizing wall design programs I have on my computer, that will show them exactly how their wall layout will look in their room.  It’s important to me that the money they spend with me is money well spent and enjoyed for years to come.

Organic Bloom Baby #3 Arrives

My friends, Jason and Andrea, owners of the Organic Bloom Frame company, just had Baby Bloom #3 – it’s their third baby in three years.  And lucky me, I got to photograph all three as newborns.

Here’s Poppy….. she looks a lot like Jason’s mother if you ask me.  Same shape face.  She was a little doll baby for our photo session.

I’ll start by posting my favorite images from her session – this is one of my favorite colors.  The sweet fluff is from Oh So Fleeting and this color is to die for….  It goes beautifully with the little bubble (from one of my sweaters – repurposed)  and headband from Stirlings Flowers.  The great thing about Stirling is that she custom makes items so if you love quality headbands, message her.

The next photo is one I call Oatmeal Fluff –  more of this super soft fluffy  stuff, an adorable as can be romper with coordinating headband….. isn’t she just SQUEEZABLE!?

This next prop image features a sweet bed from Turtle Pond Works (super sturdy and high quality) and some vintage finds I probably got with Andrea on one of our many antique shopping trips.   The little baby pants are from Post Box.

The next image features a sweet, delicate headband from Stirling – just precious with this multi colored wrap from  Nicole at Persnicketys Knits – she is wonderful at what she does.

Poppy looks great in color – this purple suits her beautifully.  She’s like her sister Ellie – likes to be wrapped up tight.

Lastly, another pop of color – one of my favorite colors – deep aqua.  This hat was made by Nancy who owns

Ewe Baby – another fabulous knitter who I get the majority of my knitted goods from.  She makes quality and loves to

work on new designs with me.

Baby’s First Year – Meet Lydia Rose

So I blog about my BabyCAKES program a lot because I  really love photographing babies at all stages.  The reason I choose each stage is for a particular reason.

This is Lydia Rose – she is very special to me and I absolutely think she is perfection.  You’ll soon see why.

Newborn – this is the sweet age where we curl babies up into little poses and  capture their tiny little body.  Every attention to detail is taken, as well as keeping your baby warm and safe thru the entire session.  At Brenda Horan Photography, we have everything we need for the session – all you need to supply is the baby and the milk. 🙂Newborn

At four months, they are just about ready to roll over, they can lay on their tummy and hold up their head, they can sit assisted, so we use buckets and baskets to support them so they are comfortable and happy.  This is just about the time when they will smile directly at you and give you all sorts of cute expressions.

4months

Next up is the 8 month session – where babies typically can sit on their own.  I love this stage because they are still chunky, and really want to stand and scoot.  Here Lydia is standing  to show off her cute little body in a Matilda Jane romper.

8months

The last session is the One Year with a smash cake.  I love for parents to start introducing cupcakes to their baby a week ahead – so the baby gets used to the sweet and sticky  taste of frosting.  It’s hit or miss – some babies cry, but most love it and cry when we take  the cake away.

Campbell baby arrives!

I’ve been waiting for almost four years for this baby to arrive.  Vanessa has been my assistant for about four years and together with her husband, I knew they would have the cutest baby ever.   So, as you can imagine, I have been planning this session in my head, collecting all the cutest little boy and little girl props I could find, because they weren’t  going to find out what they were having until the actual birth….  I have two baby girls coming in tomorrow and they are going to get to wear SO many cute girl outfits since – you guessed it – George is a BOY!

Meet George.  Wearing adorable little knitted overall from Ewe Baby.  https://www.facebook.com/EweBabyPropShop?ref=br_tf

Tulsa Photographers Brenda  Horan and Vanessa Campbell capture the newborn goodness of little Mac Sooter.

Hundreds of photographers from around the world waited for news of the arrival of Baby Bloom #2 – little Mac Hudson Sooter.  Not knowing if Baby Bloom would be a girl or boy KILLED me!  However, we planned ahead, ordering custom hats for either gender from our favorite vendors (see list below).

The Organic Bloom Frame Company is near and dear to us here at the Brenda Horan Photography Studio, after all, Vanessa Campbell is Andrea’s sister, and I am officially an “Auntie” and Jason’s biggest pest!  We are privileged to bless them with images of  Mac that will coordinate beautifully with all the images we’ve shot of Ellie since she was born.  Going into the Sooter home is like an ad for their  frames…. we are glad they put such a high value on images and display them so beautifully on the walls of their home.

Here’s Mac… such a chubby baby at almost 10 pounds!!

Maternity & Twin Newborn Session: Natalie Heinrich and her baby boys

 Can you imagine expecting twins?

What fun it is to see beautiful maternity images like Natalie’s and then turn around and also see how Brenda and Vanessa capture the beauty of her newborn, twin boys. It’s not every day we get the pleasure and honor of working with twin newborn babies. Even though Tulsa Photographers Brenda and Vanessa have had quite a bit of experience with these type of sessions, each one is unique and fun in it’s own sort of way.

Look at that pregnancy glow! Wouldn't it be great if we were all guaranteed to look this beautiful at 8 months pregnant?
Look at that pregnancy glow! Wouldn’t it be great if we were all guaranteed to look this beautiful at 8 months pregnant?

I was so excited to get the call from Natalie that the boys, Hewitt & Harrington had finally arrived. Here at the studio we had been anticipating their arrival and preparing for their photo session, weeks prior to their birth. At Brenda Horan Photography, we like to make each newborn session unique and custom to our clients. We make sure the props and accessories we use, coordinate with the newborn nursery and with the clients home. Often times we will add a tag to the props to customize the portrait with the baby’s name. Each touch and attention to detail is recognized when viewing the portraits.
