Digital Images Delivered In Style

It seems these days all my customers want digital images, so I wanted to have something stylish to deliver them on.

I just got these new custom USB drives from USB Memory Direct, which is a wholesale USB company.  They did a great job, were easy and friendly to work with and the wooden USBs are the perfect way to deliver images to my customer.  They have different styles and can customize anything.  This style is the Tower.  They added my logo and I just love the look of it.

I’m loving my new custom flash drives from USB Memory Direct!

First Days of your Newborn’s Life are the Most Precious

The First Days Of Your Newborn’s Life Are The Most Precious—Capture Them Forever With Photographs You’ll Cherish For A Lifetime

Newborn photography by Brenda Horan
“I have at least two walls in my house completely covered with Brenda’s photos of our family! She took our daughter’s newborn photos several years ago, and we haven’t used any other photographer since. She is especially patient with newborn shoots and any sitting that involves children. Somehow, she’s able to solicit smiles from all our kids and us at the same time, creating a gorgeous portrait for us to cherish forever…” ~ Cristen O.

There’s No Other Experience Like It

Nothing is more magical, emotional, or amazing than seeing and holding your new baby for the very first time.

The early days, weeks, and months of parenthood will be an incredible experience, but you may not realize how FAST those times will FLY by!

Every parent will tell you those early days go by in the blink of an eye.

The things you treasure so much—the smell of a baby’s skin, the feel of his or her little body cuddled against yours—become distant but cherished memories as your children quickly change and grow.

Before you know it, you’ve been carried along on the roller coaster ride of bringing up your adorable children, but the memories of those previous first moments with your new baby are just that—memories.

What One Mom Had To Say

Newborn photography by Brenda Horan

Brenda is one of the most dedicated and passionate photographers I’ve met. She’s been our family photographer for the last 6 years.

I noticed a beautiful card advertising her photography business at The Market in Tulsa, Oklahoma when I was pregnant with my first born. I viewed her website and immediately signed up for her Baby Cakes program.

This was such an important time to capture our new family beginning. Brenda exceeded all our expectations with gorgeous images that were perfection. I almost couldn’t believe these images were mine.

The images were so impressive that they brought tears of joy and happiness to many eyes, including my family and friends. I now have three children.

I loved Brenda’s work and style so much, I continue to use her with all three children and she continues to amaze me with her talent. I love her gentleness with newborns and her patients and playfulness with babies and children.

She makes each session look effortless, which takes talent!

Our home is filled with the most beautiful pictures that I’m so proud to display. The pictures are timeless.

Brenda has created memories for my family that will always be loved and cherished forever. I’m blessed to have found a photographer with such an amazing gift. Brenda truly puts her whole heart into her work, and I’m forever grateful…

Your Baby Will Be Here Before You Know It

Memories of always great to have, of course, but even memories can fade in time, and they’re hard to share with other people.

Unless you decide TODAY to forever preserve these treasured times with professional newborn and baby photographs before time marches on with you caught firmly in its grasp.

This isn’t a decision you can put off any longer because the window of opportunity to get this done is SMALL.

Your baby will be here before you know it, and will only be a “newborn” for a very short time.

If you’re still expecting, that’s fantastic because there’s no better time to plan newborn photographs.

In fact, the best time to think about getting your baby’s first photo session on the schedule is actually around 2–4 months before your expected due date.  My preference is to have the baby in the studio 7-14 days old so they are able to  do all the curled up poses for me.

If you delay this until after your baby is born, you’ll have a lot on your mind, and selecting a professional newborn photographer after the fact might not be the first thing on your to-do list.

Once your little one makes his big entrance, simply let us know the awesome news, and we’ll coordinate with you to choose the perfect day for the photo session.

It goes without saying, your new baby is beyond priceless, so you won’t trust just about anyone to capture those critical first photos, right?

You want a photographer with experience, who knows exactly what to do, which is exactly what you’ll get with me because I’ve accumulated more than 18 years of experience in this field.

I promise you, your tiny babe will be gently posed, with care and love, creating precious images of your new bundle.

I’m so thankful to have found a photographer who can truly capture such special moments!” ~ Jennifer Wright

Regroup, rethink and recharge with Tulsa Photographer Brenda Horan

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted any blogs but I’m going to catch you up on the past 6 months right now.  January was my month to regroup, rethink and recharge myself.  I took a little vacation to Seaside, Florida which really helped me clear the air on what I wanted 2016 to look like.   Most people don’t even realize this, but I quietly divorced my husband in March and am ready to move on.  Living in personal turmoil is not something I have interest in doing, so I decided to move on with as much dignity as possible.  The critics  are always eager to pounce, but I have found solace in the most unexpected places and people. It has actually given me a new perspective on friendship – what it means to be one and what it means to have one.  There were many days in March and April that I had to rely on the Lord for strength and patience.  I don’t like to show weakness, but I was weak and He answered me in the most beautiful ways.

So 2016 has started off with a lot of change but I’m not afraid of change.  I have friends that I have known since grade school that are solid friends, but I also have friends from Texas, Maryland and Florida (all places that I have lived) that I continue to correspond with, pray for and keep up thru social media.  I’ve lived in 4 different states over the course of my life, built homes, sold homes, re-established my photography business three times since 1999.     I’ve had home studio’s, a converted barn studio, a 4000 sq. foot custom studio, and back to a great home studio that I adore.  My current home is on the market and I have found the cutest little cottage that I hope to buy which will make a great home for me and be able to continue to offer great photography services to my customers.

This year both of my children  graduated in May – one from Oklahoma State University, the other from Metro Christian Academy.  Both of my kids have grown into people I admire, they have a strong love for the Lord and they respect  others.  I feel I have done my job when it comes to parenting and I couldn’t be more proud of them.

BHBella graduating from Metro Christian Academy

Travis graduating from OSU

Right now, I’m in Vail, Colorado, looking out the window at this incredibly beautiful town while my daughter recovers from another hip operation.  The love friends and family have shown us during this time has made both of us cry.  It’s overwhelming really,  it just reminds me that WE ARE ALL the body of Christ and this is normal in the Kingdom so it’s as close to being on Earth as it is in Heaven that I may see in this lifetime.  Thus the overwhelming feelings I get when there are texts offering prayers,  hope and love on my phone or FB inbox.  It means everything to me.

So, what do I have planned for the rest of 2016?  Since it’s almost half over I want to make the very most of it.   My plans are to continue with my photography business, because that is my gift and I love doing it.   I also want to mentor young women who need encouragement.  My life has been full of blessings, but also has had a lot of rough patches in it.  I want to use those rough patches to encourage others that even tho someone might beat us down, that we can stand up and be who God created us to be and not believe the lies the enemy is trying to convince us is truth.  I’ve not shared much of my past with most of you, but I feel the urge to say this… in 1993 I was at the lowest point of my life.  I had a brand new baby boy, but a husband that was abusive in the worst ways to me.  He had convinced me that I was fat (at 98 pounds), ugly, worthless and never going to get anything better than the life I had with him.  It was a horrible time, yet it was a beautiful time because I was a mother to the most happy little boy who never cried and was always giggling.  It was my baby boy who gave me the strength to find a better life for the both of us, to break the cycle that this abusive situation was normal, and once I divorced my first husband I had a very hard road ahead in becoming who I wanted to be.  One friend dragged me to Al Anon meetings 4 times a week for an entire year – that changed my perspective to what an addict can do to their loved ones and gave me the courage to be victorious and not have a victim mentality.   Another friend convinced me to go to Arizona and attend a one week, in depth survivors workshop, which opened my eyes to what I could become if I let the Lord into my life on a deeper level than just attending church once a week, that week allowed me to forgive and not let the past control my future.  Another friend supported me financially so that my son and I could live in a safe place where  husband #1 wouldn’t be able to harm us.   Eventually, life became more “normal” and life got good.  Seeking the Lord with everything you have every day is a must in my life.  Without Him, I would be nothing.

I say all this to encourage someone, somewhere to find a quiet place, turn on some worship music and just listen.  Let the lyrics wash over you, and let the Lord minister to your heart.

Life is short – live it to the fullest.

Beautiful Props Available at Brenda Horan Photography

Having a lot of beautiful props at Brenda Horan Photography is something I am known for.  Making it easy on the customer, not having to go out and shop is a perk.  Choosing between the variety of props is another thing…. not so easy.

I just got in some great new items that I haven’t even been able to use yet!  I’m super excited to have these items from the fabulous Mia Joy Studio Website Here  – her items sell out so fast that they are difficult to get!   The  details are just to die for!!!

SIX new Mia Joy Newborn Outfits!!!

There’s also a new vendor ~  Inspired By Adele Website Here  ~ whom  I’ve been getting items from.  I just adore working with her, she is producing great quality items for newborns and babies of other ages.   I like to have a variety of items on hand for babies at the 4 month sessions because they need to still look like a baby – and those times of items are sometimes hard to find.   She up-cycles things –  so I sent her a few of my shirts and sweaters….. the little chevron outfit is from one of my sweaters and I can’t wait to use it in a little hippy inspired set!

Super cute newborn and 4 month outfits.

I love a good hat – I wear them often.  Babies in hats just make my heart melt.  When I found April’s Yarnables website here I felt like I met a long lost relative.  Her work ethic is incredible.  She is incredibly kind as well.  I hope to meet her one day because I think we would have a lot of fun.

Her hats are made from felt and they are super soft, fit beautifully and really made with quality.   She knits her hats first then felts them down to size – there is such a lot of work that goes into each creation.  And each hat comes with a detachable floral tie (not shown) making them easy to mix and match.

A photo of one in use…. isn’t he cute?

Now, when it comes to knitting, Nancy, owner of Ewe Baby, is my first choice!  Website Here .  Her work is perfection and she loves creating!

My favorite things are her hats with matching wraps, and her fun little hats.

She makes so many of my favorite items, including this little sailor hat (my fav) and sweet little outfits for newborns. IMG_0091

I would love to be your photographer of  choice.

New Backdrop Roller System Built!

Do you have a lot of backdrops?  I do, over 100 of them.  I love  Lemondrop Shop for my drops –  their poly paper is my favorite and their drops come in 5′ wide by 6, 7 or 8′ high.  Perfect for my Backdrop Rolling System by Studio Tools.   (More on them in just a minute).

Storing all these backdrops is easy thanks to these handy carts (which have wheels).  Each cart holds 21 rolled up backdrops.  I keep my drops taped to PVC pipe to keep them free from wrinkle free, easy to organize and ready to go.

Get your cart here:  Cart on Wheels

So, I traded out with a handy man to build me a backdrop system.  The first one I loved, then I realized I needed a platform to raise the baby/subjects up so I don’t have to kneel down.  He then built a platform that was 12 inches high and covered with wood flooring which was also on wheels, so I could move it around.  This system was made of steel and required welding, which made it hard for many people to build…… so we came up with a new system made of wood, that most handy husbands can easily build if they follow Studio Tools instructions.

Watch Video of it being used here:  Video on You Tube    (yes, my dog Marty follows me around all the time).

The latest version is awesome, has a FOLD UP platform, is super sturdy and I use it every day I shoot.  It eliminates a lot of wasted time because I can load up to 3 drops up in a matter of minutes and begin my sessions.

folded up back side view ^

The platform is perfect for Lemondrop Shop’s floor drops, and we store our floor drops under the platform for easy access.  Just roll your desired drop down, clamp it to a baseboard (here we use one from Organic Bloom Frame Company.

I always say, other than my camera and lighting, this in the most important piece of equipment I have.  To order your instructions email me at   It’s only $40 and you  receive PDF directions on how to build your own, and instructions is where to purchase items needed.

Costs on materials were under $300 which included the laminate wood flooring.

I’d love to see photos of your system in use.  email me at

Newborn Photographer Brenda Horan’s latest newborn – Max

Max really lived up to his uber cool name.  He’s a 2 week old that weighed in at 6 pounds and  has perfect features.  I really loved all the photos from his session, but these were my very favorite ones.

Let’s start with this image featuring one of my newest hats from Ewe Baby    Nancy knits such cute things and is really easy to work with.  We collaborate on so many things and it’s fun to design something that can be used two ways…. this can be tied under chin for a bonnet look, or behind the neck for a beanie look.  GENIUS!

Backdrop and floor drop from Lemondrop Shop.   where I get all of my backdrops.

Tulsa-Photographer-Brenda-Horan-Max-1This next image shows the same hat as a beanie…. and this little bear came from my trip to NYC’s Eloise store in the Plaza.  That’s another blog all in itself!)

This little felt bear is also from Ewe Baby, Hat from Persnickety’s Knits who also knits beautiful, quality pieces  What I love about this image is his back peach fuzz…. and how his bottom lip curls inward.  These are little details that will finish quickly so I’m happy I captured them for his momma.

This variation of the “frog pose” just makes me happy because every boy loves baseball and he’s just so sweet here with that pout.

Traditional frog pose zoomed in tight to see all the little details of his face and all the wrinkles in his fingers and hands.

This image will be hanging in my office – it’s just everything I hoped to capture when I ordered this jersey from  the Knitting Bitty and had my friend April make me this vintage football to just complete the look I was going for.

And I should add that this knit backdrop I got at Mood Fabrics when I traveled to NYC last month – it’s a cashmere blend and I am in love with the brown/grey color.
Tulsa-Photographer-Brenda-Horan -Max-6

This last image I love because it’s just beautifully lit, his little profile against his time hand, and the wispy bonnet ties laying across his back.  Sigh…..  Max can you come back every week?

If you are expecting, or know someone who is, please share this blog with them.  I have so many new items coming into the studio on a regular basis, and love my job.

Tulsa Baby Photographer loves chubby babies!

Oh My Goodness – you just can’t stop smiling when you look at this sweet, chubby baby.

Meet Emma Kate.  She is a 4 month old over achiever who not only gave me perfection during the session, but she can sit really, really well.  I am hoping that when she comes back for her 8 month photos, she isn’t already walking.  SLOW DOWN Emma Kate, you will be a teenager soon enough.

So, I’m starting out the blog with a image that just makes me super happy.

All backdrops on this blog post are from Lemondrop Shop

Capturing a little smile sure makes everyone in the studio sigh…..

Another fabulous headband by The Pink Elephant Bowtique.  One of my favorite headband vendors.  All her items sit well on the head, which is actually important.BHP_0269

I love my little baby beds from Turtle Pond Works – well made and super sturdy.

BHP_0296This is another one of those AWESOME shots that when I download on my computer I give a little leap of joy….. Look at her beautiful complexion, her sweet smile,  her perfect hair bow from Stirling’s Flowers (check her out on Facebook).  Again, this bow sits perfectly on the head and is made from leather.

another cute little nudie – which I just can’t get enough of.BHP_0328

Lastly, a photo of her in front of one of my newest big props – wearing a headband from Nancy at Ewe Baby   We did this set up especially for her grandma Denise.  xoxoBHP_0348I hope you enjoyed these little 4 month old baby photos as much as I did writing and posting about them.  I love babies and kids of all ages – and would love to be your photographer.  Please call me at 918-704-4399.

Tulsa Baby Photographer

Brenda Horan

Brenda Horan loves babies… it shows in her work.

Yes, I love babies.  I had two of my own who are now 22 and 17,  so having a “job” where I get to play and entertain babies for a living is so much fun.  Besides, who doesn’t love dressing up a baby in a cute outfit?

Today I wanted to write about my BabyCAKES program.  This is what I consider the BEST DEAL IN TULSA for having your baby photographed by a photographer with 16 years of experience, fantastic equipment, colorful backdrops and a big variety of props suited for little kids.  I even have a wardrobe closet in case you need a cute, little outfit for your baby or child up to abut 7 years old.

The BabyCAKES program is $475 and includes the newborn session, as well as 4, 8 and 12 month old sessions PLUS at the end of the year you receive a beautiful album compiled of your favorite images from each session.  It’s a value of over $1118 if purchased individually.

Here is little Camilla, whom I photographed all year – we just celebrated her birthday with a Smash Cake Session…. she’s a living doll.  Curly black hair and blue eyes and a smile that melts you!  These are just a few of my very favorite images from each of her sessions.

BlogBoardBHPCamillaSee how much she changed during the first year?  Its just amazing to me.

If you are expecting or know someone who is, please call me!  I would love to capture your baby in photos for you to remember how sweet and innocent they are with photos you will cherish.

2014 Santa Workshop Session Review

Have you ever dreamed of a Santa experience that didn’t involve waiting in long lines, crying kids, impatient dads, only to get up to Santa and find him not Jolly at all?  Well I have.  I dreaded the yearly trek to the mall with my kids.  Then I hated the photos!

Fast forward to what I like to create each Christmas for my customers – a happy  experience.  Three years ago I started doing Limited Edition Santa Workshop sessions.  I shopped for tools, a workbench, a vintage typewriter, vintage toys…. all keeping in mind what I wanted to build – a magical set for Santa to interact with children for about an hour while I captured the precious faces looking at Santa in awe!  Plus who doesn’t love sharing a little milk-n-cookies with Santa?

This year, I ordered new wood backdrops from my favorite company Lemondrop stop

And I love the lodge feel of the set now.

The session follows a storyline written by my friend Jessica Rice and tweaked by me to fit each family album I create.  It’s a beautiful story and the album becomes a cherished keepsake.

We start building the set in early October and sessions begin late October.  Typically I run a limited number of sessions so if you are considering this for 2015 – you should contact me now to get on my waiting list.  Once I open session dates and times I give my current client base first chance at the dates, and anything still open I post on Facebook.

I hope all of you have a wonderful, safe Holiday.  We want to thank all of our 2014 customers for making this a great year and for allowing us to capture your memories.  I can speak for myself and Vanessa, it is a privilage to serve you and we look forward to seeing all of you again in 2015.

Be blessed.

Designing your portrait layout is easy…

A lot of thought and preparation goes into each and every session I shoot at Brenda Horan Photography.  When it comes to displaying your images, I can help you come up with something that will look great with your home decor.

For a bedroom, I like three 16×20 images side by side for a nice balanced look.

For a Chasie Lounge with a clean modern feel, I love the look of a clean ledge with a simple piece of art (in this case I show a curvy vase in a great color) next to a 20×30 canvas.

For a living space – above the couch it’s a nice option to use a grouping, with a 30×40 in the center, flanked by four 20×20 images. Tulsa-Photographer-Brenda-Horan-Couch

Above the baby’s changing table, how sweet is it to have a grouping of newborn images to remind you of how small they once were.

Above a dresser, we love another grouping.  We always tell our customers to keep the colors of the room in mind when selecting their color pallet for outfits – this works beautifully together.

A modern couch with a great family collage above it  always looks beautiful.Tulsa-Photographer-Brenda-Horan-Living

Your baby’s nursery will always make you smile as you walk into it when you have  your favorite newborn images above the crib – even at 3am!  Tulsa-Photographer-Brenda-Horan-nursery

Or  you could choose to collage photos from different sessions during the year of BabyCAKES sessions and frame them similarly to keep it cohesive.

Using the colors in your room/furintiure to keep it all cohesive is important.  You wouldn’t want a neon orange outfit on a little girl and hang that in a room with burgundy walls and formal furniture.  Take everything you love into consideration.  I happen to love the color aqua – so I borrowed this classic car as a prop for my own wedding photos and I wore a aqua necklace (my something blue).  It works well in my house and in this display.

Stairs are typically the place where you have a lot of wall space, but don’t quite know what to do with it.  A black and white image collection works beautifully here because we don’t always have coordinating colors and want to display our very favorite images of our kids from year to year.  Keeping the line of images moving upward really is appealing visually.

If you need help selecting  your wardrobe for a session, I  send you my What2Wear guide.  This helps you to pull together cohesive looks without matching.

If you have any questions, or would like to book a family session, please contact me at
